"Well, you've still got your health", or "at least I still have my health", are two very popular sayings that are uttered whenever something goes wrong in a person's life. The reasoning for that is as long as you can continue to live a healthy life then nothing else matters. Living is the most important part and that's especially true if you say one of the above the phrases during a stressful moment. Whether you're a Toronto lawyer, server at a North Vancouver bistro, Thunder Bay hockey coach or Montreal politician the inevitable fact is that stress will always play an a major role in your life.

In an average person's life, be they a Toronto architect or Calgary stay-at-home mom, there are numerous stressors. Too much stress on a person can have ill health effects; both mental and physical. There are just too many pitfalls of stress one can suffer if they become too stressed out. What's the point of getting worked up over something such as your Toronto dental office having to cancel your appointment? Why would you want to go home after that happens and stress out over it? It will only lead to bad things.

If we all tried to remain calm during stressful situations we'd be doing a major favour to our bodies and minds. If not, and you continue to stress out over things such as a failed Toronto real estate for sale transaction or getting your hours cut back at work, you will suffer some unhealthy effects. Stress leads some people to start taking on unhealthy eating habits, such as binging on fast food or eating a ton of junk food, which leads to weight gain. Stress eating is one of the unhealthiest forms of eating. To avoid such weight gains just try to handle the stress-filled situations you face.

Another unhealthy effect that results from being stressed out is not being able to sleep or not getting enough sleep. If you're stressed out because you got a bad grade from a test in your English as a foreign language class and can't sleep because of it you're only hurting yourself in the long run. Not going to bed at a decent time because you're stressing yourself out over that grade will change your sleeping pattern and make you tired and sleepy throughout the day and that leads to your brain functioning at a much lower level than usual.

There are many more unhealthy effects that can result from being stressed out. Try your best to avoid the pitfalls of stress and make more of an effort at managing your stress. Your body and mind will thank you.
